Job Description

We are currently seeking a contract resource with advanced skills in application development using Power BI. This individual will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of highly advanced interactive Power BI dashboards and reports. These Power BI tools support data-driven decision-making for a fast-paced logistics team in charge of scheduling and routing LNG cargos.

This contractor will be an expert in visualization, working with a Senior Project Manager and an internal Data Engineer to construct a Power BI solution with advanced graphics and functions such as schedules and Gantt chart-like components based on prototypes developed in Excel. The Expert Power BI Analyst will assist in solving this problem by:

  • Integrating Excel-based models and SQL-based data sources into a Microsoft BI stack, resulting in accurate on-demand reports that are visually appealing and encourage better decision-making by the logistics team and executives.
  • Developing the following solutions based on existing prototypes in Excel:
    • A logistics shipping schedule modifiable in Power BI, illustrating areas of risk & opportunity.
    • Detailed P&L reports providing a comprehensive understanding of profit and loss drivers.
    • Summary dashboards with drag & drop functionality displaying open positions and opportunities.

Location: Onsite- New York City 

Project Length: 3 Months Plus

Compensation Range: This role offers compensation between $70-$75/HR W2 , depending on years of experience, education, and relevant certifications. 

Responsibilities

  • Expert data visualization within Power BI with extensive experience in creating robust and visually impressive interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that effectively communicate complex data insights.
  • Demonstrated experience in building complex reports in Power BI, making use of various data sources and detailed user requirements.
  • Considerable experience in building Custom Visualizations in Power BI and offering simple solutions to elaborate reporting requirements.
  • Develop intricate long-term schedule reports in Power BI with different icons/bars, visual appeal, sorting & filtering capabilities, and easy comprehension for business and executive users.
  • Create reports with interactive abilities to update source data sources through CRUD operations and to provide live interactive feedback to users of the reports.
  • Proven ability to design robust callback features and integration between source data and reports.
  • Visualize risk and opportunity in custom or fit-for-purpose reports and dashboards.
  • Utilize the Microsoft BI Stack (e.g., Power BI, Fabric, Power Apps, Data Flows, Power Query, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL) to generate useful and appealing reports.
  • Streamline the publishing and downstream sharing of reports and/or visualizations within reports for specific business use situations.
  • Advanced analytical thinking, swiftly turning business requirements into well-designed and functional reports that are adaptable and customizable according to business needs.
  • Develop and improve data models to guarantee data accuracy, performance, and ease of use for end users.
  • Continuous performance optimization of Power BI reports for performance, ensuring they load quickly and operate smoothly as per end-user feedback.
  • Significant experience with quality assurance, ensuring the information reported in Power BI is accurate and timely.
  • Experience working with database developers and administrators to swiftly construct data architecture to support high-quality, visually appealing, customized reports.
  • Capability to provide strategic consulting and perspective to the business, with a keen eye for continuous improvement.
  • Provide training to report end users and the business team in using Power BI, the data that nourishes the reports, and the dashboards effectively.
  • Detailed knowledge of different report-building skills, including DAX and Power Queries
  • Implement the use of Microsoft Power Platform to enhance Power BI reports and business intelligence needs.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience building complex solutions in Power BI using a variety of data sources & visualizations.
  • 8+ years of Business Intelligence & report building experience.
  • Background in Information Technology, Business Intelligence, Data Science, or Computer Science.
  • Experience building reports and visualizations related to LNG (or other) shipping logistics and Natural Gas operations and commercial activity (preferred).
  • Experience working with fast-paced end users in an iterative development process to swiftly incorporate feedback and deliver solutions.
  • Experience in advanced data visualization concepts, technology stacks, and the supporting architecture.
  • Business Communication skills and the ability to take directives, provide feedback, and relay progress and challenges to business stakeholders.
  • Detailed understanding of User Experience and Data Visualization concepts and best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with evolving challenges and requirements.
  • On-site work in New York City 5 days per week (preferred).
