Microsoft's Strategic Planning and Architecture (SPARC) team within the Azure Hardware Systems & Infrastructure (AHSI) invites you to be a pivotal part of Microsoft's ambitious "Intelligent Cloud" mission. Our team spearheads the architecture and deployment of hardware solutions that power over 200 online services, reaching over a billion users globally, including high-impact services like Microsoft Azure, Bing, Office 365, and Xbox Live, among others.

As a Principal AI Architect, you will shape the future of Azure's hardware roadmap, designing and developing performance models and analysis tools crucial for executing expansive neural network models on a large scale. This role calls for an expert with a robust background in software engineering, performance modeling, and neural network training and inference.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-level performance models and infrastructures.
  • Work collaboratively with hardware architecture and software framework teams.
  • Innovate and analyze novel neural network (NN) architectures.
  • Uphold and embody our culture and values centered on respect, integrity, and accountability.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of technical engineering experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a related Engineering field plus 8 years of experience, or a Master's degree plus 5 years of experience, or a Doctorate degree plus 4 years of experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in developing/architecting CPUs and accelerators.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of large language models, including training and inference phases.
  • Proficiency in Python programming and experienced in software engineering.
  • A collaborative mindset and effective communication skills.

Salary Range & Benefits:

The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. Specific ranges apply to San Francisco Bay and New York City metropolitan areas, with the base pay there ranging from USD $173,200 - $282,200 annually.
