Job Summary

NetApp is on the lookout for a seasoned Principal Data & Machine Learning Engineer to join our Data Services organization. Our mission is to empower organizations to effectively govern their data, build cyber-resiliency, and accelerate digital transformation. By adopting an AI-first approach, we aim to deliver a world-class suite of data services. As a pivotal technical leader, you will architect and develop data and ML pipelines focused on data protection, privacy, and compliance. You'll oversee a small team of engineers and harness your deep expertise in AI/ML infrastructure to deliver impactful, at-scale solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines for AI/ML-driven data services, ensuring reliable data ingestion, transformation, and integration from various sources.
• Ensure data architectures and infrastructure can scale seamlessly with growing data volumes and complexity.
• Build and maintain self-service data exploration and analysis platforms to derive insights.
• Provide guidance to data analysts, engineers, and scientists to leverage data resources effectively.
• Oversee ML design reviews, create best practices, and establish playbooks for end-to-end ML systems in production.
• Work autonomously, providing technical leadership and a forward-looking vision.
• Communicate complex technical details to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to innovate and discover new use-cases driven by data intelligence.
• Participate in planning sessions to ensure data engineering activities align with organizational objectives.
• Provide coaching and leadership to data professionals and the broader team, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
• Build data products with a strong customer focus that delight our users.
• Represent NetApp within the machine learning community, building relationships with external partners and promoting our capabilities.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics/Statistics/Data Science, or a related field.
• 10+ years of industry experience as a data and machine learning engineer with a proven track record of shipping successful AI/ML products at scale.
• 3+ years of experience building data/feature pipelines and deployments for ML models across various domains in AI/ML (NLP preferred).
• High-level understanding of supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms with 5+ years of production experience.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics/Statistics/Data Science, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in technically leading a team of data and machine learning engineers.
• Experience building pipelines for end-to-end AI/ML model deployment in the areas of security, privacy, and compliance.
• Ability to represent the company as a thought leader in the data engineering community.
• High-level understanding of deep learning approaches, particularly in Natural Language Processing.
