Principal Data Consultant Position at Made Tech

Salary: £105,000 - £115,000

Location: Bristol, London, Manchester, or Swansea with a hybrid-working policy

Hybrid Working: Client-site/Made Tech office 1-2 days per week

About the Role

As a Principal Data Consultant, you'll report to the Head of Data and play a critical role in driving Made Tech's mission to help public sector organizations better utilize technology. You'll build and manage strategic relationships, lead accounts, discover new opportunities, and advise senior technology leaders across multiple clients.

Your responsibilities will include working closely with our customers' senior leadership to shape their strategy, ensuring our consulting teams deliver high-quality services aligned with customer technology visions, and supporting the growth goals within Made Tech's Data & AI practice.

This role is central to identifying new opportunities, winning work, running bid teams, supporting sales efforts, and developing new business. Additionally, you'll coach and support team members across various practices, steering project success and contributing to hiring and line management.

While not hands-on technically, maintaining broad technical knowledge of modern data practices, data strategy, and roadmaps is essential.

Essential Skills & Experience

We're looking for candidates with the following experience:

  • Direct customer and user engagement
  • Experience in a technology consultancy or data/strategy role within public sector/commercial organizations
  • Shaping data strategy, delivery roadmaps, and approaches to quality, ethics, and governance
  • Developing data practices or capabilities
  • Combining data strategy, science, analytics, and engineering for outcomes
  • Strong understanding of modern data platform architectures (data warehouses, lakes, mesh)
  • Proficient in DataOps and MLOps best practices
  • Knowledge of various data engineering and science technologies, especially Apache Spark
  • Understanding agile ways of working
  • Familiarity with key cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
  • Evidence of self-development and a passion for continuous learning

Desirable Experience

While not essential, experience in the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Central Digital & Data Office’s Data Ethics Framework
  • Leadership of a data capability/function
  • Account or program leadership roles
  • Winning large contracts (exceeding £1m)
  • Working with multidisciplinary digital and technology teams
  • Public sector experience
  • Experience in hiring, forming, and leading teams

SC Clearance Eligibility

Due to the nature of our projects, successful candidates need to be eligible for SC (security check) clearance, requiring 5 years of UK residency and employment history (or full-time education).
