What You’ll Do

Our Drug Value Strategy team manages pharmacy network operations, develops standardized reporting, and crafts pricing and underwriting strategies. The Data Analytics team within it creates and manages standard reports for Abarcans and clients, digs through raw data for audits, builds predictive models, and identifies operational and clinical opportunities.

As our Principal Data Scientist, you'll utilize your coding skills to manage and transform big data into meaningful information and customized solutions. If you're a coding enthusiast (Python, R, SQL, etc.) who thrives on developing creative solutions and visualizations, this role is perfect for you. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop data solutions using data mining, data modeling, natural language processing, and machine learning.
  • Analyze and interpret large data volumes using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software.
  • Lead the development of analytic tools related to market insights and population health concepts.
  • Engineer risk adjustment models to predict drug spend for various geo-locations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to the analytics team for developing complex reports.
  • Create presentations and reports for cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Develop publications to highlight and showcase DVS offerings.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses as needed.
  • Engage in other DVS projects as needed.

What We Expect of You

Bold Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Healthcare, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • 6+ years of experience in healthcare data analytics (e.g., medical and pharmacy claims data).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply causal statistical methods and/or machine learning to large datasets.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, advanced statistical methods, and data-oriented programming languages, statistical modeling, and visualization software (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Strong problem-solving skills in healthcare cost and utilization analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Completed data science projects involving ML or algorithm application.
  • Expertise in healthcare coding (CPT, ICD, HCPCS).
  • Understanding of healthcare market dynamics.
  • Experience with formulary and regulatory requirements for Medicaid and/or Medicare.
  • Experience designing and developing AI applications and systems.
  • Experience with real-time and streaming technology (e.g., Azure Event Hubs, Azure Functions, Pub/Sub, Kafka, Spark Streaming).
  • Experience with big data frameworks such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Google Dataproc, or Databricks.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to access and navigate each department within the organization’s facilities.
  • Sedentary work involving primarily sitting or standing.
