About the Role
As a global hub for digital payments and mobile technology, Visa’s Risk and Identity Services (RaIS) team is at the forefront of advancing payment security and reliability. We are seeking a Principal Machine Learning Scientist to spearhead our machine learning initiatives within RaIS, driving innovation in our strategic products and services.
This key position involves designing, developing, and deploying machine learning models on cloud platforms to resolve complex problems and enhance our offerings. Ideal candidates will have a strong academic background and impressive software engineering skills, along with a proactive attitude, keen attention to detail, and the capability to collaborate effectively.
Essential Functions
- Research and develop machine learning algorithms to solve business challenges and enhance product performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, software developers, and product managers, to design scalable solutions.
- Implement machine learning pipelines for data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, and evaluation.
- Optimize models for performance, scalability, and reliability in cloud environments.
- Deploy models on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
- Develop monitoring systems to track model performance and detect anomalies.
- Work with DevOps teams to automate deployment processes and integrate models smoothly with existing systems.
- Stay informed about the latest advancements in machine learning and apply them to improve practices and solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
This is a hybrid position, requiring alternating time between remote and office work. Hybrid employees are expected to work from the office 2-3 days a week, aligning with business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- 12+ years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, or 10+ years with an Advanced degree (e.g., Masters/MBA/JD/MD), or 5+ years with a PhD.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree, 12+ years with an Advanced Degree, or 9+ years with a PhD in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, or a related field focused on AI/ML.
- Proven experience in ML application development and deployment in fast-paced environments.
- Proficiency in Python and ML libraries/frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn.
- Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, and in deploying ML models using cloud services.
- Background in payments, fraud, or credit risk management is a plus.
- Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and distributed computing.
- Knowledge of reinforcement learning, deep learning, and NLP techniques.
- Experience with MLOps practices and tools for model monitoring, versioning, and governance.
