Position Overview: Principal Research Engineer, Custom Microarchitectures

We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Principal Research Engineer to join our Applied Research & Technology organization in Cork, Ireland. This role is dedicated to advancing aerospace technologies by focusing on high-performance microarchitecture design specifically geared towards FPGA and ASIC target platforms.

Role Responsibilities

  • Engage in ground-breaking research in embedded real-time systems design with specific applications in aerospace.
  • Evaluate and design custom heterogeneous computing architectures to enhance performance and functionality.
  • Develop innovative hardware architectures using high-level synthesis and hardware abstraction languages based on the open RISC-V ISA.
  • Contribute to a dynamic research agenda and collaborate within an international research community.
  • Drive technological advances that provide competitive advantages across Collins Aerospace business units.

Who We Are Looking For

Candidates with a robust academic background in Computer Science, Electrical, or Computer Engineering complemented with either industrial or postdoctoral experience. A PhD or Master's degree with significant experience in related fields is required. We value professionals who are enthusiastic self-starters, excellent communicators, and ready to challenge technical boundaries in aerospace.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Expertise in high-level hardware synthesis and proficiency in CHISEL, Kôika, or ChipYard-based toolchains desired.
  • Strong knowledge of multicore and heterogeneous system-on-chip design, including formal verification and runtime monitoring.
  • Ability to work effectively in multinational teams and drive new technical strategies and solutions.
  • Familiarity with high-assurance runtime environments and advanced processing architectures.
