Job Overview:

The Privacy Coordinator role at Northwestern Medicine embodies our mission, vision, and values. By adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethics and compliance standards, this important position supports HIPAA Privacy practices, corporate compliance, and patient experience initiatives. Your role will significantly influence our quest for Exceptional Financial Performance (EFP) and compliance with JC standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficient coordination of patient requests concerning clinical documentation alterations within their medical records.
  • Work collaboratively with Corporate Compliance and physicians to manage and oversee patient privacy rights.
  • Maintain expertise in federal and state privacy laws plus HIPAA regulations to ensure the organization meets all compliance prerequisites.
  • Active communication with patients via telephone and email, ensuring transparent and prompt responses.
  • Conduct and support ongoing patient privacy risk assessments and compliance monitoring activities.
  • Utilize strong analytical skills to enhance data quality and operational efficiencies.
  • Additional duties as assigned, supporting our overarching mission of healthcare excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Associate’s degree or a minimum of 3 years in a related healthcare setting, with an emphasis on customer service, medical billing, or health information.
  • Excellent communication skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field or RHIT/RHIA credentials, along with extensive experience in health information management and familiarity with Epic patient databases.
