Key Responsibilities
Job Purpose
The selected candidate will be responsible for high-quality research in computational medicine. Responsibilities include obtaining research funding, supervising research staff and students, and developing a multidisciplinary computational biology group. This research will focus on disease predisposition and progression, utilizing large population cohorts, multi-omics data, and electronic health records.
Further duties include exploring artificial intelligence methodologies and incorporating them within research efforts to uncover factors associated with disease progression.
Primary Activities
- Maintain a sustainable personal research plan.
- Develop innovative research proposals and funding bids.
- Undertake and manage research activities.
- Publish in international, peer-reviewed journals and patent research outcomes when applicable.
- Review manuscripts and grant applications.
- Secure competitive grant and industry funding to support a sustainable research programme.
- Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.
- Develop and support interdisciplinary research projects.
- Supervise and mentor junior faculty members and research staff.
- Participate in academic committees and fulfill other administrative responsibilities as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- MBBS/MD and/or PhD degree(s)
- Over 10 years of experience in computational biology
- Outstanding record of translational research and teaching
Management and Teamwork
- Ability to lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Competence in supervising research staff and students
Communicating and Influencing
- Effective communication with staff and students
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to motivate others and work in a team
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in medical education and training
