Job Description

We are actively seeking a Research Analyst to become a part of our Lower 48 Upstream Research Team.

This role situates you at the forefront of our Lower 48 upstream and commercial analysis. Leveraging your solid analytical foundation, you will establish views on productivity and costs for the most actively unconventional plays in the Lower 48. The analysis you execute will underpin our asset, supply, and play evaluations of one of the most active oil and gas production regions globally.

The US shale sector is a dynamic, ever-evolving sector, providing challenging yet highly rewarding work. You will utilize your network and data analysis skills to gather valuable insight and author reports that challenge conventional thinking. You will have the unique opportunity to present these views to a diverse client base, including national and major oil companies, operators, investment banks, and institutional investors.

About the role

You will become part of a team of analysts and experts who generate perspectives for the US Lower 48 and underpin our macro-level outlooks. You grasp the critical issues influencing the economic viability of unconventional plays and company developments. You will have a skill for modeling subsurface and completion factors that impact each play's productivity. You will have the capability to discuss the economic drivers of a play and its development technically.

Demonstrating high resourcefulness, you will tap into a wide array of sources to support your analysis. You are comfortable and efficient in data manipulation. You will collaborate with analysts from our costs, corporate and commodities teams to craft a market narrative that is objective, integrated, and data-driven. Leveraging and expanding your external network, you will work closely with clients to identify emerging trends.

Your analysis and views will be shared through written research and regular presentations to internal stakeholders and clients. Over time, you will also form and share opinions on a range of sector topics relating to supply like corporate strategies, business environment, M&A deals, play economics, government energy policies, and regional geopolitics.

Being able to prioritize what matters to clients and the team is crucial, and you will have regular interaction with senior business stakeholders. You will ensure the embrace of new technologies or techniques to improve data processes and workflow.

Qualifications

Required

  • Industry experience in upstream oil and gas, oilfield services, energy finance, strategy consulting with exposure to the Lower 48 unconventional industry
  • An educational background in Engineering, Geosciences, Economics, or Finance
  • Advanced analytical skills, an innate curiosity, and a passion for upstream energy
  • Superb writing and synthesis skills. You possess the ability to compile impactful analyses and create visuals that convey an intriguing narrative, often under tight deadlines
  • Action-oriented mindset with a commercial orientation
  • Aptitude to work efficiently in a high-paced work environment and with ambiguity
  • Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships with people at all levels within an organization
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to clearly express a view along with the data and arguments that support it

About you and how you can excel in this role

  • You are passionate about upstream oil and gas, with an educational background in Engineering or Geosciences. You have built a deep understanding of the energy sector in your current or past roles in the industry. Preferably with firsthand experience on US unconventional plays.
  • You possess an analytical and commercial mindset, and an eye for detail. You also understand the big picture, which enables you to analyze and form clear, coherent conclusions from a variety of data and information. You can demonstrate prior experience in economic modeling/forecasting and petroleum economics. Additionally, previous experience with advanced data analysis in Excel, PowerQuery, Python, or R would prove advantageous.
  • You find no difficulty in communicating complex or technical information and delivering messages that are easily understood. You thrive in a collaborative, commercial, and client-centric environments.
