Mission

As a Research Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the development of improved refractory products. Under the guidance of the Manager, Refractory Technology Group, or the Director of Research, your mission will include initiating new product ideas and alternate solutions. You will also provide essential technical support to various departments within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct laboratory research to develop market-ready products or optimize existing ones for improvement and cost reduction. Ensure assignments reach a swift conclusion with proper documentation and reports.
  • Plan and supervise plant work orders after approval from the Manager, Refractory Technology Group. Evaluate products to ensure objectives are met.
  • Assist Sales and Marketing Departments by providing technical information on developed products. Engage with customers as needed to promote and support development work.
  • Investigate and solve technical issues in the Operating Department as directed by the Director of Research or Manager, Refractory Technology Group.
  • Support the Quality Assurance Group in investigating complaints, reporting causes, and recommending corrective measures beyond the capabilities of plant quality control personnel.
  • Evaluate competitive products, review relevant technical and trade publications, and participate in professional society technical meetings to stay updated on current and projected technical developments.
  • Provide technical support to the Purchasing Department in evaluating raw materials, meeting with suppliers, developing specifications, and managing other aspects of raw material development.
  • Write technical reports and develop presentations. Train and direct technicians and conduct administrative duties as part of your support role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the development process, material science/chemistry, forming and firing processes, refractory materials, and their applications is essential.
  • Motivation and ingenuity are required for this role.
  • Zero to two (0-2) years of experience in development or process engineering, including ceramics, materials science, or related research, is preferred.
