The Department of Neuroscience is excited to announce an opening for a Research Engineering/Scientist Assistant in Dr. Michela Marinelli’s lab. This full-time, temporary position is located in the vibrant city of Austin, TX, and is set to start on June 01, 2024.

About the Role

As a Research Engineering/Scientist Assistant, you will be integral in supporting advanced research initiatives focused on neuroscience. This position expects a commitment of 40 hours per week with flexibility in scheduling, including potential weekends, evenings, or early mornings. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting behavioral experiments with rodent models.
  • Assisting with rodent husbandry, surgical procedures, and post-operative care.
  • Performing detailed immuno-histological and anatomical analysis of brain tissue.
  • Electrophysiological recording and other related activities.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the lab and animal rooms.

This role is expected to continue until December 31, 2024, with potential for renewal based on performance and funding.

Who We’re Looking For

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Life Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in a biological research lab, particularly with rodent models.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and advanced research techniques.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Advanced skills in rodent microsurgery, behavioral procedures, or electrophysiology.
  • Proficiency in data analysis programs and Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position starts at $31,200 and may increase based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include eligibility for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas and comprehensive health coverage.
