Job Summary: Research Specialist

As a Research Specialist, you will leverage and develop your specialist knowledge to deliver focused research and development in the TRL1-6 range, including concept development, demonstrator, and insertion projects. You will employ and expand your understanding of our strategic products and technologies, using a logical and methodical approach to planning technical work and experiments. You'll discuss and develop complex technical principles and concepts as part of a broader technical team. Your primary focus will include developing Systems Engineering capabilities and creating frameworks for systems engineering activities, demonstrated through MBSE models on Aero engine components during concept and development phases.

Job Responsibilities

  • Understand the strategic direction of your specialist field and our products and key technologies.
  • Support the planning of technical work.
  • Contribute to Technology Development Plans and Technology Business Cases related to your specialization.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to innovation and technical quality, leading to high-quality Technology Readiness Level gates, Notional Type Designs, and/or Design Reviews.
  • Support necessary 'hands on' development tests and trials.
  • Issue high-quality and detailed technical documentation.
  • Review technical reports.
  • Supervise interns and master thesis students as needed.
  • Support onboarding of new employees in your area of specialization.
  • Drive maturity and solve technical problems in your specialist field, including operational issues as needed.
  • Develop and maintain long-term ecosystem relationships in alignment with our company strategy and direction from Chief Technologist(s).
  • Ensure adherence to environmental health and safety (EHS) policies and contribute to a proactive EHS culture.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • Relevant technical qualifications: Bachelor, Master, or equivalent with experience necessary to perform engineering tasks.
  • 5+ years of experience in the aerospace environment and multi-disciplinary engineering project teams with demonstrated experience in systems engineering and associated knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and verify System engineering models to ensure MBSE Arcadia methodology compliance.
  • Proficient in using Capella SMW tool.
  • Demonstrate the complete V model of SE on aero-engine components.
  • Establish a process for requirements management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Operational, System & Logical Architectures & various block diagrams.
  • Thorough understanding of engines and their component functionalities.
  • Perform activities with minimal supervision and guide other engineers as needed.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • High level of engineering functional knowledge with experience in developing new products for aerospace engines.
  • Good understanding of Jet Engine operational architecture and processes.
  • Perform functional decomposition and develop requirements, ensuring three-way mapping of requirements, functions, and logical elements.
  • Identify and implement model-based architecture and engineering methods and standards.
  • Develop and extend system models using existing requirements and relevant documentation.
  • Contribute to System Engineering method development.
  • Ensure system engineering models comply with MBSE Arcadia methodologies.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to act on own initiative within defined work package boundaries and governance procedures.
  • Present technical information to a wide audience within the engineering business.
  • Promote Lean Principles and lead Continuous Improvement Projects
