Sierra Space Careers: Dare to Dream

We honor those who are not afraid to dream big, those who tenaciously chase their dreams even when others say it cannot be done, and those who achieve big dreams and change everything. These are the Dreams Worth Chasing.

At Sierra Space, we envision a future where humanity lives and works in space, on moons, and on distant planets. Our mission is inclusive, creating a future where all people can choose to live, work, discover, and explore beyond our planet. As a company, we are building a platform in space to benefit life on Earth, altering the course of humanity together.

We have a bold mission. We are a bold company. Together, we are an extraordinary team.

About the Role

Sierra Space is seeking an experienced and innovative Responsible Engineer to lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge infrared (IR) sensor detection and tracking algorithms. The ideal candidate will oversee the entire project lifecycle, from conceptual design through deployment and operational support. This role requires deep technical expertise in IR sensor technologies, detection methods, tracking systems, and algorithm development, along with project management skills to drive the project to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the architecture, design, implementation, and optimization of IR sensor detection and tracking algorithms.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams, providing technical guidance and direction to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Work closely with systems engineers to integrate algorithms into larger sensor systems and platforms.
  • Conduct performance analysis and validation against requirements to ensure system accuracy and reliability.
  • Stay abreast of advances in IR sensor technology and algorithm development to continually improve system capabilities.
  • Interface with stakeholders to gather requirements, report on progress, and deliver technical presentations.
  • Drive the resolution of technical challenges and ensure risk mitigation strategies are in place and effective.
  • Participate in peer reviews, audits, and design reviews to maintain high quality and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers and support their professional development.
