Risk & Data Governance Consultant - Join Aviva's Dynamic Team

Aviva is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our 1st Line GI Risk and Quality Assurance team in the exciting new role of Data Governance Consultant. The successful candidate will be based within commuting distance from our Dublin, Galway, or Cork offices. We are looking for a proactive individual with a ‘can do’ attitude and a proven track record of delivery, eager to build experience in data governance. This position offers growth potential as you gain skills and knowledge in the role.

Please note: This is not a Data Analyst role.

Training and Support

Initial training will be provided by the 2nd Line Data Protection team, with ongoing support and guidance. There will be regular collaboration with this team for any joint activities and as an escalation point when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain data quality issues log, prepare monthly reports, and escalate issues to the Data Governance Officer (DGO).
• Facilitate the review and update of the Data Retention schedule.
• Compile and distribute data deletion MI to system owners, providing ongoing support to various Aviva Group projects.
• Maintain a log of Data Role holders and manage the review and approval of Roles & Responsibilities and training, including follow-up and escalation to DGO & Aviva Executive (AE).
• Perform control updates, assessments, and Group 2nd line Risk audits.
• Facilitate ad hoc and annual review and approval by Data Owners/SMEs of Critical Data Register, Record of Processing Activities (ROPA), and data maps, including follow-up and escalation to DGO and AE.
• Review sample of Privacy Notices, provide findings to the 2nd line Data Protection team, and facilitate updates.
• Review and address Data Loss Prevention (DLP) alerts, escalating to 2nd line Data Protection team when necessary.
• Maintain the Breach Log, review breach forms, liaise with the business on queries and steps, and escalate reportable breaches to the 2nd Line Data Protection team. Run monthly MI reports and compare with the Breach Log.
• Manage the DSAR Log and support the business in completing requests within regulatory timescales. Run monthly MI reports and compare with the DSAR Log.

Skills and Experience Required

• Ideally holds or is working towards a qualification in governance or data protection.
• Previous experience in a governance, risk, or data protection role is advantageous but not essential, as initial training will be provided.
• Self-starter with a strong ability to manage their workload, multitask, and prioritize effectively to meet tight deadlines.
• Understanding the importance of good data governance and protection practices, and the risks related to non-compliance with legislation and regulation.
• Clear communicator, confident in liaising with customer-facing teams and Data Owners to meet all regulatory and internal timescales.
• Keen interest in learning and building experience in data governance, with the potential for future development and progression.
• ‘Can do’ attitude and a proven track record of delivery in previous roles.
