Primary Responsibilities
- Evaluate, analyze, and recommend improvements for product maintenance, design, and operational performance.
- Support the development of new products and implement performance enhancements and cost-saving ideas.
- Analyze and evaluate new materials for product design changes.
- Conduct technical analysis of competitor products, services, and patents.
- Serve as a technical expert on the remote support team for robotics and mechatronics.
- Assist with or create simulations.
- Lead continuous process optimization initiatives.
- Troubleshoot complex breakdowns and chronic equipment failures alongside the automation support team.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to robotics systems.
- Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.
Facility/Group Specific Responsibilities
- Perform tasks assigned by the Manager of Automation Technical Services.
- Provide advanced technical support to global subject matter experts (SMEs) offering 24/7 technical support to internal and external customers.
- Supervise and mentor Tier 2 technicians/engineers to enhance product knowledge and cross-discipline troubleshooting skills.
- Identify and analyze product reliability trends to offer performance feedback.
- Support formal feedback to Product Engineering for global product or component performance and reliability.
- Review product notifications (PN) and support their planning, implementation, and tracking.
- Prepare reports with damage assessments and recommend corrective actions based on customer and field service reports.
- Coordinate with specialists to resolve complex issues and collaborate across business lines to ensure superior customer service.
- Maintain strong communication with Global Product Engineering departments.
Education & Experience Qualifications
- Technical diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred experience with Yaskawa/Motoman and YRC-1000 Controllers.
- Experience with robotics brands such as Yaskawa/Motoman, ABB, Kuka, and Fanuc.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer/Software Engineering is preferred.
- 5+ years of extensive experience in robotic programming and applications.
- Ability to read electrical drawings and support diverse technical issues.
- Skilled in technical analysis and report writing.
- Fluency in programming languages including Python, Java, C, C++, HTML, ROS, Linux, and PLC.
Job Requirements
- Attend offsite customer meetings, evaluate complex technical issues, and document proceedings.
- Draft technical workscopes and recommend special tooling.
- Review and modify spare parts lists and advise on stocking quantities.
- Support competency units, discipline exams, and create training materials.
- Evaluate new products, tools, and services and provide recommendations.
- Create and analyze customized reports on activities or events.
- Perform tasks according to quality management systems and ISO certification standards.
- Understand NOV Rig Systems and Aftermarket task organization for effective collaboration.
- Enforce NOV-approved practices for remote upgrades.
- Employ root cause analysis methods such as 5WHY’s and Fishbone for fault finding.
