The Robotics Systems Engineer is an integral member of the Amazon Robotics deployment team, overseeing the installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of Amazon Robotics equipment within new and existing fulfillment centers. This field engineering-based role necessitates demonstrated technical skills, including experience with mechanical, electrical, networking, and software systems during a deployment. Although specific training is provided, candidates should have pre-existing knowledge about the basic operations of robotics and networked mechanical and electrical systems. A Systems Engineer will collaborate with a team of 1-5 engineers and an on-site project manager to provide technical oversight during the installation of robotics equipment, both third-party and Amazon-designed. The deployments require extensive collaboration with third-party installers, contracted engineers, construction, hardware, and software teams, as well as IT and other partner teams. Efficient communication skills with both internal and external partners and customers are crucial. Candidates are expected to show independent initiative in identifying and solving problems during a project and driving continuous improvement projects forward to prevent recurrence. The robotics systems deployed by the Systems Engineers may be in various stages of the product life cycle. Candidates will be expected to develop process documentation and modify existing processes in partnership with project and program managers to improve business performance and sustainability. Proven technical knowledge, a passion for field work, and a keen interest in the workings of Amazon's various robotics systems are key to success in this role. Projects can last from a few days to several months and may require travel across the US. International assignments are available for those interested. This position requires 75% travel, and a valid US driver's license is required. We are open to hiring candidates in any of the following locations: Austin, TX, USA | Boston, MA, USA | Seattle, WA, USA Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related STEM field. - Experience with mechanical, electrical, IT networked, or software systems. - Understanding of data collection and reporting processes, and ability to make data-driven decisions. - Ability to read technical drawings and/or CAD models to resolve on-site clash issues using 3D clash detection reports. - Ability to troubleshoot robotics systems and resolve escalations. - Ability to read and develop technical documentation and process instructions. - Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. - Willingness to work primarily in a construction or warehouse environment and to travel extensively across the US and, potentially, internationally. - Proficiency in standard office software tools and processes. Preferred Qualifications: - 1-3 years of experience in a field engineering, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse environment. - Proven experience with hardware integration or complex mechanical-electrical or networked industrial equipment. - Demonstrated use of data to inform decision-making processes. - Practical understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP). - Ability to take independent initiative to address a business need. - Knowledge of robot-specific experience (Fanuc, ABB), Allen Bradley PLC experience. The base pay for this position ranges from $65,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $188,100/year in our highest geographic market.
