As a Senior Data Engineer at Turnitin, you'll be part of a global team of proactive, supportive, and independent professionals. You'll work to deliver complex, well-structured AI and data systems, closely collaborating with various teams within Turnitin. Your efforts will integrate AI and data science across our extensive suite of products, further enhancing teaching, learning, and academic integrity.

Job Description

Your role as a Senior Data Engineer comes with several responsibilities, requiring a balanced set of skills:

  • AI Data Engineering: Design, build, operate, and deploy large-scale, real-time data pipelines using AI techniques and best practices. Support Turnitin's AI R&D efforts by utilizing advanced data warehousing, data science, and data engineering technologies. Strive for automation to speed up time-to-market and enhance the reusability of newer AI projects.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the AI R&D teams and the Data Platform Team to collect, create, curate, and maintain high-quality AI datasets. Ensure alignment of data architecture and data models across different products and platforms.
  • Innovation: Extract valuable insights from Turnitin's abundant data resources through innovative research and development.
  • Hands-On Involvement: Take part in data engineering and data science tasks as necessary to back the team and the projects. Take responsibility for external data collection efforts, including state-of-the-art prompt engineering techniques, to support the construction of cutting-edge AI models.
  • Communication: Promote clear communication within the team and the organization, ensuring understanding of the company's vision and mission.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated with new tools and development strategies, offering innovative suggestions to the leadership team.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in data engineering, preferably related to AI R&D acceleration and enablement.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, Java, and SQL.
  • Experience with Redshift, Hadoop, Elasticsearch, and cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Familiarity with AI frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow, and AI libraries like Huggingface and Scikit-Learn.
  • Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and LLM APIs.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, along with the ability to prosper in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • 6+ years of data engineering experience specially concerning AI and machine learning projects.
  • Experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) techniques and tools.
  • Experience in the education or edtech sectors.
  • Experience with data visualization and data communication.
