Position: Applied Scientist in Perception

This role will focus on developing long-term, stable software solutions to complex challenges using cutting-edge machine learning and sensor research.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Exploring, prototyping, validating, and iterating on new algorithms from a research perspective
  • Driving efforts to optimize, supervise, and refine on-road performance for models approaching production
  • Supporting the hardware organization through sensitivity studies for hardware selection and architecture investigations
  • Championing quality engineering by developing robust solutions rather than merely identifying problems

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of computer vision fundamentals
  • Experience in developing and training ML models
  • Ability to perform first principles analysis of perception models and conduct hardware sensor tests
  • Proficiency in running and retraining perception ML models and assessing their performance
  • Independent and collaborative work abilities, especially between hardware and perception teams
  • Hands-on experience with sensor data and experimental hardware
  • Familiarity with sensing physics and various sensing modalities (lidar, cameras, radars, ultrasonic sensors)
  • Proficiency in ML frameworks like TensorFlow, Caffe, and PyTorch
  • Skilled in programming languages such as Python and C++
  • A passion for self-driving technology and its global impact

Bonus Points

  • PhD in machine learning or computer science
  • Research experience in computational cameras, physics-based computer vision systems, or related fields
  • 4+ years of industry experience in Machine Learning
  • Familiarity with ROS, OpenCV, Gazebo, or PCL
  • Experience deploying perception algorithms in real-world environments
  • Knowledge of autonomous driving technologies

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $161,200 - $237,000, varying based on location, job
