Amazon's Workforce Solutions Analytics and Tech team is expanding, and we are in search of a Senior Applied Scientist to tackle some of the most challenging optimization problems in labor scheduling and operational efficiency. This role is critical in leading efforts to enhance and innovate within these domains.

About the Role

As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will be at the forefront of addressing large-scale business challenges through deep knowledge of Operations Research and Machine Learning. Your expertise will drive the development of models that transform into production-ready code using Python or Java, influencing the efficiency of over a million Amazon associates.

Key Responsibilities

You will spearhead the creation and implementation of solutions that optimize flexible labor capacity. This involves:

• Being thoroughly engaged in research within Operations Research or Machine Learning.
• Mentoring junior scientists and leading by example in a highly collaborative environment.
• Developing complex mathematical models and pioneering new solutions that transition from experimental research to operational deployment.
• Contributing to software development processes that enhance our production systems.

Desired Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

• More than 3 years of experience in creating machine learning models for business applications.
• A PhD or Master's degree with over 6 years of related applied research experience.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or similar.
• Experience with neural deep learning methods and familiarity with tools like R, scikit-learn, and TensorFlow.

Location and Compensation

This opportunity is available at multiple Amazon office locations including Arlington, VA, Austin, TX, Bellevue, WA, Nashville, TN, Seattle, WA, and Tempe, AZ. Compensation varies by location, with a base salary ranging from $136,000 to $260,000 per year, alongside a competitive total compensation package including equity, bonuses, and comprehensive benefits.
