Senior Data Engineer Position

We are currently seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Data Engineer in the South West region. This full-time role offers a competitive salary between £35,000 - £40,000 per annum, along with excellent benefits.

About the Role

The Senior Data Engineer will support the broader Data & Modelling team, including data scientists, application developers, and hydraulic modellers, by providing high-quality and complete data. You will manage extensive datasets from thousands of sensors and assets overseeing clean and wastewater operations. Additionally, you will have the chance to collaborate with the University of Exeter's Centre for Resilience Environment, Water and Waste (CREWW) to address significant issues in the Water Industry, such as achieving zero leakage and eliminating uncontrolled sewer discharges.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain data pipelines and databases for key ODI/EPA measures, including storm overflows, FFT, leakage, and supply interruptions.
  • Support the implementation of digital registration standards for sensor and asset information such as MCERTs, EDM, Flow, and Leakage.
  • Establish a single source of information for operational reporting and access (data lake).
  • Provide high-quality and complete data on request via self-serve tool and APIs to stakeholders like data scientists, developers, asset and performance managers, hydraulic modellers, and strategic partners.
  • Maintain legacy systems used for information access or reporting, such as the Asset Data Portal.
  • Manage and update critical datasets, including DMA and PMA polygons.

Requirements

  • A background in computer science, mathematics, geography, or data science and analytics.
  • Experience with data transformation and integration engines like SSIS.
  • Highly skilled in Python and SQL, and familiarity with various relational databases.
  • Experience working within an agile, cross-functional team and meeting deadlines.
  • Competency with GIS software such as QGIS and ArcGIS.
  • Experience in the water industry or a similar sector, with knowledge of regulatory frameworks.
