About the Role
As a Senior Data Governance Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the DG Office. This includes prioritizing deliverables, handling communications, and reporting. You will work closely with the Data Governance Officer (DGO) and support Canada's DG team in embedding DG practices into projects and business-as-usual (BAU) initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist the DGO in implementing Data Governance strategies, policies, and processes
- Contribute to the execution of the Data Risk and Control Framework
- Ensure adherence to enterprise Data Governance frameworks, policies, and standards
- Identify and raise exceptions to policies and standards
- Manage processes related to the Information Asset Register, Critical Data Register, and annual attestations
- Conduct Data Impact Assessments and present findings in Data Council meetings
- Lead data projects to embed DG standards and support various Workgroups
- Track Data Issues in the Data Issues and Activities Log
- Maintain the enterprise data catalogue, data lineage, and metadata management tools
- Utilize data governance technologies to support data governance monitoring
- Develop and lead DG training programs across Canada
- Support Third Party Data Risk Management Processes
Global DG Requirements Support
- Ensure compliance with the Global Data Governance Standard
- Collaborate with Global Data Governance, Data Owners, and Data Council to enhance DG maturity
- Identify and implement improvement plans to increase DG maturity
- Monitor business remediation dealing with DG risk, control, and governance
- Publish Canada's monthly DG reports for the Global DG team
- Maintain the data transfer register and coordinate third-party data risk management
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 5 years in Data Governance and data controls
- Proficient with Data Governance Platforms for Metadata and Data Quality Management
- Advanced expertise in compliance and data risk management
- Strong partner management and data governance advocacy skills
- Effective collaboration and relationship-building skills
- High initiative and goal-setting abilities
- Ability to influence commitment and results from non-direct reports
- Proven experience in defining and implementing policies and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in Insurance (Property and Casualty) is an asset
