About This Role

We are in search of an exceptional Senior Data Scientist with a specialization in economics and data science, focusing on statistical modeling, causal inference, and structural analysis. Your role will be pivotal in enhancing data-driven decision-making processes at Duolingo. You will work closely with our Engineering and Product Management leaders to develop sophisticated metrics and models that drive strategic business decisions.

This position requires a strong background in education or a proven track record in measuring learning outcomes. As a key player in the Data Science & Analytics team, you will also provide mentorship and support the continuous learning and growth of the team.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and refine economic models and data science solutions from concept to production, ensuring sustainability and effectiveness.
• Utilize advanced analytical techniques like machine learning, causal inference, and structural modeling to enhance our understanding of user behaviors and learning efficacy.
• Lead data operations including gathering, structuring, and validating data to maintain quality using tools such as SQL, R, or Python.
• Collaborate with data engineers and business intelligence experts to transform insights into practical data products.
• Communicate analytical findings clearly to executive teams and integrate these insights into developmental strategies.
• Stay updated with the latest in applied economics and statistical methods to continually refine our practices.

Qualifications

• PhD in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, or related fields.
• At least 4 years of relevant experience in analytics, coding with Python, R, SQL, and economic/statistical modeling.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to convert complex data into actionable insights.
• Strong communication skills and proficiency in collaborating across diverse teams.
• Ability and willingness to work from our offices in New York or Pittsburgh.

Duolingo offers a competitive compensation package with a salary range of $144,500 - $294,000, complemented by equity options and comprehensive benefits.
