About the role
Zillow Group is currently looking to hire a Data Scientist to join the Marketing Data Science & Analytics team. In your capacity as a data scientist, you will be crucial in crafting visually enthralling representations of complex data to provide insights and support marketing decision-making.
Your primary role on the Marketing DSA team will be to unearth insights that help guide our marketing team in shaping Zillow Group's future. The team works in close collaboration with the marketing organization to uncover strategic opportunities across various areas, including brand marketing, performance marketing, and different business lines such as rentals, B2C, and B2B. You will work with data science, marketing, product, and other DVEs to build and maintain reporting and ensure high-quality marketing performance data. Central to your role will be building and sustaining data science solutions aimed at enhancing marketing efficiency and providing insights that bolster the marketing team. More specifically, your role will involve:
- Analyzing and interpreting vast, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights to support marketing execution and optimization.
- Cooperating with marketing stakeholders to establish key metrics, goals, objectives, and devise data-driven strategies to achieve them.
- Using statistical modeling and machine learning techniques to develop & continue evaluating marketing performance.
- Performing in-depth market and customer segmentation analysis to recognize target audiences and inform marketing campaign strategies.
- Mentoring and coaching younger team members to execute analytic requests and helping remove obstacles via code reviews & best practice sharing.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure relevant insights are surfaced for decision-making.
- Designing and optimizing data pipelines and workflows in collaboration with data engineering teams to facilitate efficient data collection, storage, and processing.
- Providing insights and recommendations to improve marketing campaign effectiveness, customer targeting, and lead generation based on data analysis.
- Effectively communicate complex analytical findings to diverse stakeholders, translating technical concepts into actionable insights and recommendations.
- Delving into Zillow's internal and third-party data to develop solutions that progress the business and enable better decisions at a rapid pace.
The position has been categorized as a Remote position. Being a "Remote" employee means you do not have a permanent corporate office workplace. Instead, you work from a physical location of your choice, which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In some cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.
In some states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is between $140,900.00 - $225,100.00 per year. This base pay range is only applicable to these mentioned states and may not be relevant to other locations. In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance, and location. Actual amount may considerably differ depending on the mentioned factors.
Who you are
We are looking for someone passionate about reporting, translating complex data sets and business problems into easily understandable and impactful insights. You should also be willing to tackle complex and emerging business problems. We are seeking a Data Scientist who:
- Has an undergraduate or Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, engineering, statistics, finance, or similar) with at least 4 years of work experience involving quantitative data analysis and complex problem-solving.
- Boasts a minimum of 5 years of experience as a data scientist with experience in querying multi-terabyte-sized messy datasets, such as clickstream data.
- Possesses a good understanding of statistical concepts, measurement methods, and causal inference techniques as it relates to the marketing domain.
- Is proficient in SQL, Excel, and either Python or R, and has experience with Tableau, Mode, or other visualization software.
- Able to work cross-functionally and has robust written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
- Is well-versed in modeling techniques, a deep understanding of various drivers forms of attribution methods and measurement mechanisms in the marketing field.
- Understands and appreciates how marketing strategies vary across B2B and B2C and how that influences measurement and data science methods.
- Has demonstrated experience in coaching teams at both a tactical layer and strategic layer.
Nice to Have
- Experience with tools like DBT, Snowflake, Looker, Tableau, Airflow, or Fivetran.
- Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., science, engineering, mathematics), or equivalent experience.
- Experience with online marketing, understanding of the ad tech space, changes happening in the privacy realm and marketing measurement ecosystem.
- Familiarity with the agile methodology and Jira tool.
- Familiarity with data engineering tools and platforms.
- Experience in SEO and Google Analytics.
- Experience building Marketing Mix Models or Attribution Models using statistical or machine learning techniques.
