Senior Data Scientist - Offers Team

  • Full Time
Job expired!

We're here because we believe in small businesses. We believe they deserve better than waiting weeks for a loan. And we believe it's our job to help them grow.

We started in 2012 with these principles, and they remain true to this day - now that we're one of the fastest-growing fintechs in Europe. In the meantime, we've built the best tech platform in lending, won several awards and provided over £3.5 billion in loans to more than 100,000 businesses.

So what's next? Our mission now is to help one million businesses that need us. To do this, we'll need new products and partnerships. But most importantly, we'll need smart, hands-on people to join us on this journey and help us achieve our goal.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist who loves to code and engage with raw data. It's not important to us whether people refer to you as an Engineer, Physicist or Mathematician. What matters to us is that you are a curious and lifelong learner committed to excel in what you do.

Our Data Scientists create cutting-edge algorithms using statistical modeling and machine learning techniques. They use Python (Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn) to work in a fast-paced, cooperative, and dynamic environment producing data-driven solutions with significant business impact.

The Offers team is responsible for optimizing the types of loan offers we make to customers, while creating a seamless user experience for customers to view and accept their offers. As a Senior Data Scientist joining the Offers team, your primary responsibility is to determine the offer terms (e.g., pricing, amounts) that we should provide to customers to maximize offer acceptance and value for iwoca. You will review observational data, identify hypotheses for potential unknown relationships, assess the commercial relevance of these hypotheses, and design and implement tests to verify them.

Requirements

  • Numerical background, such as Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or similar.
  • Background in Probability & Statistics.
  • Coding experience: Python, Java, C/C++ or similar.
  • Experience with Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, R, Matlab, and/or SQL
  • Ability to deeply understand the business context and translate data into actionable insights
  • Independent worker capable of functioning in an unstructured environment.
  • Proven experience using machine learning techniques.
  • Experience with Bayesian analysis preferred.
  • Understanding of computer-science fundamentals.

We expect to offer a salary between £70,000 and £100,000 for this role. However, we're flexible, so include your salary expectations with your application. We regularly benchmark salaries against market rates and often reward staff for the growing value they bring to our business.

At iwoca, we prioritize a culture of learning, growth, and support, and invest in the professional development of our team members. You'll have access to plenty of opportunities for skill development, mentorship, and career progression, and can choose your career path, focusing on frontend, branching into full-stack, or developing your skills in project and people leadership.

We value diversity of thought and skill, and encourage you to explore new areas of interest to help us innovate and improve our products and services.

Our friendly and inclusive environment, combined with our flexible work policies, ensures that you'll have the perfect balance between work and life, empowering you to thrive both personally and professionally.
