Position Summary
As a Senior Data Scientist, you'll mentor emerging data scientists, foster best practices, and manage complex projects with potential organization-wide impact. You'll provide thorough analysis, formulate strategic project approaches, and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including customers, vendors, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Opportunities and Process Improvement
- Collaborate with diverse stakeholders to identify complex business challenges
- Conduct comprehensive ROI analysis for potential projects
- Contribute to building business cases for enterprise-wide analytics initiatives
Data Evaluation and Analysis
- Identify relevant data sources to solve intricate business queries
- Utilize automated ETL processes for data extraction, blending, cleansing, and organization
- Visualize data for informed decision-making
- Address and rectify outliers, missing, or incomplete data records
Model Building and Implementation
- Select appropriate techniques and algorithms for model development
- Build, test, and fine-tune machine learning models
- Embed models into applications for enterprise-level usage
Communication and Leadership
- Engage in discussions about best practices for modeling activities
- Provide regular project updates and results
- Lead discussions on Penske's data-driven vision and strategy
- Mentor junior data scientists to foster their growth
Exploring New Technologies and Industry Trends
- Stay updated on logistics industry trends
- Evaluate new technologies for potential application to Penske's business
Qualifications
Experience and Education:
- 6+ years of experience with a master’s degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Math, Computer Science, or related fields
- 4+ years of experience with a PhD in similar fields preferred
- 4+ years designing and building machine learning applications using both structured and unstructured datasets
Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in Python or other high-level scripting languages
- Experience with distributed computing frameworks, especially PySpark
- Expertise in advanced Machine Learning and Deep Learning techniques
- Solid experience with SQL
- Ability to manage multiple intricate projects
- Skill in translating complex data insights into strategies for non-technical stakeholders
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Effective collaboration with tech and non-tech teams
- Proven ability to mentor junior team members
- Familiarity with model deployment, MLOps practices, and containerization technologies (like Docker and Kubernetes) is a plus
