About the Role

As a Senior Database Engineer at Guardian, you will provide comprehensive operational support for Guardian Database Systems. You will design and build robust database systems using automation across data center and cloud platforms, identifying build defects and creating self-healing routines. Your mission will be to design, build, deliver, and maintain database systems that are issue-free, always-on, highly secure, and peak-performing.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in an on-call rotation providing 24x7x365 incident and outage response, including non-business hours changes.
  • Conduct initial investigations and troubleshoot database system issues to resolve problems and identify root causes.
  • Process all support requests within SLA guidelines following procedural requirements.
  • Escalate to vendors as necessary to ensure timely issue resolution.
  • Document steps taken to resolve incidents and fulfill catalog requests within ServiceNow tickets.
  • Develop, document, and update standard operating procedures and knowledgebase articles.
  • Identify, address, and resolve recurring alert trends to boost stability and performance.
  • Recommend defects and product/infrastructure enhancements to improve stability and automation.
  • Participate in skill enhancement sessions and training courses periodically.
  • Lead and participate in various projects including cloud migration, lifecycle management, application modernization, capacity planning, financial optimization, performance and stability optimization, and build and design state configuration automation.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in MySQL Database Administration.
  • Proficiency in MySQL replication and SQL coding/tuning.
  • Experience with shell scripting and automation.
  • MySQL Enterprise Manager experience.
  • Familiarity with AWS/Cloud Services, including EC2, RDS, and Aurora.
  • Cloud deployment experience with Jenkins, Bitbucket, and Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience with database tasks in dynamic environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
  • Understanding of MySQL’s storage engines like InnoDB and MyISAM.
  • Expertise in MySQL RDBMS installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Commitment to SDLC/Change-Management principles.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with ticketing tools such as ServiceNow, Zenoss, and Cloud monitoring tools like CloudWatch and CloudTrail.
  • Keen analytical approach to problem-solving.

Desired Skills

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across various tiers (application, network, database, server, storage).
  • Experience in DB2 UDB, Oracle, Postgres, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, and/or Cassandra is a plus.
  • Experience with configuration management tools: SCCM, Puppet, or Ansible.
  • Development or enhancement of training and upskilling programs.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or similar required.

Work Location

Holmdel, NJ or Bethlehem, PA.

The Database Service is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM ET to 5:00 PM ET, with 3-days remote and 2-days in the office. We operate 24x7x365 using an on-call rotation.

Compensation

Salary Range: $114,080.00 - $187,415.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate for the primary location of the position. The final salary will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. This role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
