About the Role
The Autonomy & Guidance Engineer will take charge of developing cutting-edge autonomy and guidance algorithms across the full flight envelope, which includes but is not limited to autonomous flight, cruise, landing/take-off, and ascent/descent. This pivotal role involves steering testing and validation efforts for advanced autonomous systems and guidance algorithm development tailored to our aircraft specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of autonomy and guidance algorithm efforts.
- Design autonomy architecture components including decision-making, real-time guidance, and planning activities.
- Employ advanced techniques to develop real-time guidance/planning strategies for our autonomously flying aircraft.
- Implement decision-making algorithms and strategies to foster a safe and efficient decision-making architecture.
- Conduct detailed simulation studies to evaluate and streamline the autonomy/guidance loop.
- Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams for model integration, systems testing, and verification.
- Perform Monte Carlo simulations, regression testing, and establish test coverage scenarios.
- Drive the flight testing processes to refine the aircraft's auto-pilot functionalities.
- Work alongside engineering teams to ensure adherence to safety, performance, and efficiency standards.
- Develop system-level requirements, prepare technical reports, and contribute to Autonomy/Guidance engineering documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or a related Engineering field with at least 5 years of experience; Master’s with 3 years, or PhD with 1-2 years of experience.
- Profound knowledge in autonomous systems, autonomy algorithms, and autonomous decision-making.
- Expertise in high fidelity simulation platforms, modeling, system integration, and flight control strategies with a focus on Autonomy & Guidance.
- Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, and familiarity with Julia and other simulation tools.
- Experience with flight testing and data analysis.
- Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills.
