Your Role: As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will lead the end-to-end development and implementation of advanced machine learning solutions to combat fraud. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver scalable ML models that continuously evolve to prevent fraud attacks.

Meet Our Team

Join PayPal’s core Fraud Data Science team within the Global Analytics Data Science (GADS) organization. Develop innovative solutions to reduce fraud across the PayPal ecosystem, ranging from onboarding and identity verification to money movement and loss recovery. Fraud management is crucial to our business due to ever-changing patterns and attacks, requiring ongoing research and state-of-the-art techniques in ML/DL, anomaly detection, and continuous learning.

Your Way to Impact

In this role at PayPal, you will directly impact our business by reducing losses due to fraud at various stages of the PayPal ecosystem. Work with domain experts in cybersecurity, investigations, vulnerability detection, and proactive fraud prevention. Collaborate with business teams who manage products like crypto wallets, two-factor authentication, and third-party billing. Your models will help these teams prevent fraud as early as possible, reduce losses, and improve key performance indicators (KPIs).

Your Day-to-Day

In your daily role, you will:

• Build ML/DL models for fraud prevention, analyze fraud patterns, and adopt advanced proprietary fraud prevention mechanisms.
• Leverage cutting-edge algorithms and techniques for fraud prevention. Research new approaches to improve our ecosystem.
• Overcome challenges related to big data, evolving fraud techniques, and new payment technologies using your expertise in ML, domain knowledge, analysis skills, and understanding of evolving fraud patterns.
• Manage the model development process end-to-end, working closely with business and strategy teams to solve complex problems.

What You Need to Bring

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years, Master’s degree with 2+ years, or Ph.D. with 2+ years of research experience in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, Statistics, Mathematics, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, probability, statistics, data science, A/B testing, and ML model analysis. Knowledge of deep learning algorithms is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with the end-to-end ML lifecycle, including data analysis, feature engineering, feature selection, technique implementation, hyper-parameter tuning, deployment, and maintenance in production.
• Proficiency in programming languages like Python (preferred) or R, and ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Caffe.
• Familiarity with SQL for data extraction from various sources and data transformation.
• Proven track record of delivering actionable insights and driving business impact through data-driven decision-making.
