Senior Scientist in Life Science (Microscopy/Biology with Machine Learning) - Remote, Eastern U.S., or Toronto

Join Sartorius as a Senior Machine Learning Applied Scientist and be a pivotal part of our Corporate Research team. We are seeking a passionate and experienced professional with expertise in microscopy, cell biology, cell physiology, biochemistry, and machine learning. This position is remote, with options to be based in the Eastern U.S. or Toronto, and requires occasional travel to Ann Arbor, MI, and Marlborough, MA.

About the Role

Our mission is to simplify and accelerate progress in life science and bioprocessing research, facilitating the development of new and improved therapies. In your role as an applied machine learning scientist, you will enhance Sartorius imaging products used by leading companies in the life science and biopharmaceutical sectors. You will have access to extensive, annotated, high-quality biological and chemical datasets across various domains, including live-cell imaging and multiplex cell and protein analysis.

What You Will Accomplish:

• Design and lead technical/applied research projects according to our Research and Technology Roadmaps
• Evaluate state-of-the-art knowledge for business potential and translate it into projects and existing product/technology areas
• Build prototypes using cutting-edge machine learning tools for applications in computer vision, sequence analysis, and omics analysis
• Implement data science best practices for developing and deploying reliable machine learning solutions
• Advise project leads and upper management on project status
• Collaborate with a global team on respective technology areas
• Maintain and build strong relationships with internal and external collaborators

Qualifications

• Completed Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Biotech, Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines with a focus on life science or biotechnology
• 2+ years of industry experience using modern deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and computer vision methodologies (e.g., Object Detection, 3D reconstruction)
• Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with data science tools such as Numpy, Pandas, and Matplotlib
• Experience with machine learning management systems (e.g., Azure ML) or workflow engines (e.g., MLFlow, Airflow, Metaflow)
• Knowledge of data storage, databases, and structures for large data volumes
• Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and verbal)

Compensation

The base salary for this position is $140,000.00 - $170,000.00 depending on experience. Higher starting salaries may be available based on geographic differentials.
