Job Description

Wolt’s search functionality is vital to our customer shopping experience, helping them discover their next order from our extensive range of options. The Search Relevance team manages the retrieval and ranking of restaurants, stores, dishes, and items in Wolt’s search results across all platforms and touchpoints. As a Senior Search Backend Engineer on this team, you will:

• Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot our custom search engine built on Lucene.
• Work at Wolt’s scale, operating in 25 markets with millions of customers across multiple languages.
• Collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team of Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, Software Engineers, and Analysts to address customer problems, directly impacting business and customer KPIs.
• Contribute to product initiatives aimed at enhancing our machine learning solutions.

Location: This position can be based in one of our tech hubs in Berlin, Helsinki, or Stockholm. We also offer remote work possibilities from anywhere in Finland, Sweden, Germany, or Estonia. If you are based outside these locations, Wolt provides relocation support to help you move to Finland, Germany, or Sweden.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in building Search Engine systems, utilizing technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, or Lucene.
• Proficiency in designing large-scale, resilient distributed microservices on cloud infrastructures (preferably Kubernetes and AWS).
• Experience with Python; Kotlin knowledge is a plus.
• Strong advocate of agile processes, operational excellence, and coding best practices, including clean code, readability, and test-driven development.
• Experience with machine learning systems is a bonus.
