Who We Are Nuro exists to better everyday life through robotics. The company's custom electric autonomous vehicles are designed to bring the things you need—from produce to prescriptions—right to your home. Nuro's autonomous, goods-focused solution can give you valuable time back and more freedom to do what you love. This convenient, eco-friendly alternative to driving has the potential to make streets safer and cities more livable. About the Role Nuro takes a machine-learning-first approach to autonomous driving technology. In an ML-first system, the overall system performance depends heavily on the quantity and diversity of its training and evaluation data. The Data Discovery team develops data mining infrastructure to index the vast sensor data and metadata generated every day by Nuro’s vehicles. We use a combination of classical search techniques over structured data and learned techniques over embedding vectors generated by ML models. The end result — a suite of tools that can search billions of objects across a range of modalities — empowers every ML scientist at Nuro to collect larger and more diverse datasets. About the Work As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll build business-critical infrastructure that accelerates the development of Nuro's autonomous driving technology. - Develop search tools that can index image, lidar, and derived data to uncover interesting or rare driving scenarios. - Design and scale indexing pipelines to handle petabytes of input data and billions of indexed objects, using both classical and learned techniques. - Influence the development of ML models and deploy them to a production indexing service. - Collaborate with ML researchers and operations teams to understand the onboard autonomy system and their needs. - Collaborate with frontend engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver relevant and easy-to-use products. About You - You have 3+ years of C++, Rust, Go, or Python software development experience in a production environment. - You’re deeply technical with a scrappy mindset. You can jump into any system, quickly understand what’s going on, and make changes to keep the project moving. - You are customer-obsessed: passionate about delivering a great product that solves problems for client teams. - You bring up those around you through mentorship and feedback. You’re always looking for ways to improve our team’s work. - You collaborate effectively with colleagues from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds. You feel comfortable navigating situations with many stakeholders and requirements to consider. Bonus Points - Past experience developing search or retrieval applications. - Past experience developing internal tools for autonomous driving, robotics, or data annotation.
