Our Team:
Think about the best products you've developed as an engineer. Were they driven by APIs that accomplished what you needed so you could concentrate on resolving your user's issue? Did these APIs simply make sense and work as you anticipated? If so, then you already understand what we are aiming to achieve. Constructing production software is challenging. Making it so straightforward to use that it fades into the background is more difficult. Accomplishing this for healthcare data, which can often be chaotic, is an immense challenge that few have successfully done.
Data Services manages the core spheres underlying how we direct our members to the appropriate care at the right time. The Coverage team is charged with answering vital questions that allow a member to get the right care: What are the correct health benefits to present to a member when they approach us? And how much will it cost?
This team may be a good fit for you if:
- You flourish in high-impact work that is fundamental to the business's operation.
- You understand that correctly modelling the domain is a significant part of resolving a complex business issue.
- You can identify simpler subproblems and solutions within what others see as daunting complexity, and build these solutions back up to address the wider issue.
Desired Outcomes — What does success look like?
- Achieve team and business impact through high personal productivity.
- Prioritize and allocate engineering effort according to projected business value, effectively communicating with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Direct project completion by managing epics/stories/tasks, providing clarity to the business on delivery timing, and taking ownership of the project's overall success.
- Design, implement, test, and operate systems with exemplary engineering fundamentals that make appropriate tradeoffs.
- Participate in cross-team and cross-functional efforts to guarantee timely, successful delivery against team OKRs.
- Guide engineers, enhancing their technical and non-technical abilities to maximize their impact.
Competencies:
- Outstanding engineering leadership by example — regardless of your preferred programming language, you separate concerns and establish well-abstracted interfaces, resulting in functional, efficient, well-tested, maintainable code and systems.
- Thinking and communicating in first principles — you can explain your viewpoints from foundational concepts rather than through associative thinking.
- Critical thinking with influence — you systematically assess the trade-offs associated with each potential solution to a problem, make an informed decision, and articulate these things well to influence others, driving impact.
Technologies:
Here are some of the technologies we currently use or may use in the future; you probably care somewhat if you're an engineer. Familiarity with these tools would be advantageous, but not a requirement:
- Go, Python, Ruby, Scala, Java
- Django
- GraphQL
- HL7 FHIR, Redox
- gRPC/Protocol Buffers, Thrift, Avro
- Bazel
- OAuth
- MySQL, PostgreSQL
- Kafka
- Redis
- Elasticsearch
- Docker
- Kubernetes
- Terraform
- AWS
