What’s the Role?

We’re excited to announce an opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer I to join our Content Moderation Experience team. In this role, you will work on enhancing the quality of items on Etsy’s marketplace by developing suppression systems and building tools to enable support agents to enforce Etsy policies effectively.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager of Content Moderation Experience. Alongside a competitive salary, you will be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and comprehensive benefits supporting you and your family.

We are considering candidates based in the United States, with a preference for those close to Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or the San Francisco Bay Area. About the Content Moderation Experience Team

The Content Moderation Experience team ensures a positive buyer experience on Etsy by filtering out inappropriate content. We integrate with Search, Ads, Recommendations, and Marketing to enhance user experience and maintain high content quality.

Our suite of tools supports areas like content filtering, listing management, and advanced image analysis. Collaborating closely with product teams, operations specialists, and ML partners, we continually adapt to the evolving content landscape on Etsy.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Hands-on coding and full-stack development of key content moderation components and features
  • Participating in code and design reviews to maintain high-quality standards
  • Collaborating with operations specialists and engineers from other teams to achieve goals
  • Partnering with product engineering teams to integrate moderation tools into their workflows and conduct A/B experiments

Qualifications for Success

  • A growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning and self-improvement
  • Proven track record of writing high-quality production code
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as PHP, Python, JavaScript, Ruby, C# (Etsy primarily uses PHP and JavaScript, but open to other languages)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience working with a remote team
  • Hands-on experience with Cloud technologies (Google Cloud or AWS) is a plus
