ABOUT THE ROLE Our Rocket Growth business empowers small and medium suppliers to provide Rocket Delivery (Dawn and Next Day Delivery) to millions of Coupang customers by allowing them to use Coupang’s Fulfillment and Delivery Network. It is one of the fastest growing sectors in Coupang with thousands of new suppliers joining each quarter. As we prepare to magnify this business exponentially over the next few years, we are creating Engineering and Applied Science teams to upgrade our systems for an extensive and growing selection, and to optimize networks of Fulfillment Centers nationwide and globally. One fundamental responsibility of the Rocket Growth Data Science team is to utilize big data to identify recognizable patterns of success and failure. We also use data science to comprehend root causes that trigger failure and to establish predictive models that will help resolve the most impactful problems in the supply chain. The volume of data and the variables at play make this role challenging and enjoyable. The essential role of a Senior Staff Data Scientist requires scientific leadership in machine learning, particularly time series analysis, Natural Language Processing, and Large Language Models to streamline the sellers' and buyers' experience. In this role, you will also coordinate data science strategies and technological resources. We are looking to hire a data science leader preferably experienced in e-commerce fulfillment, logistics, and supply chain. Joining Coupang’s Rocket Growth team will instantly impact decision making and influence millions of customers' experiences. This role can be based in Seoul, South Korea or Bangalore, India. WHAT YOU WILL DO Focus Areas: Demand Forecasting & Capacity Planning Out of stock and over stock predictions and replenishment strategies Warehouse and material flow optimization In this role you will: Breakdown complex problems into simple, straightforward solutions. Formulate science roadmaps for the scalable and robust growth of Coupang's Rocket Growth's business. Collaborate with stakeholders, foster a data-driven science culture and guide scientists and engineers on essential projects to resolve complex business problems. Employ a variety of machine learning tools to garner information and understanding of seller content. Dive into large volumes of data from multiple systems to reveal critical insights that can be converted into business opportunities. Strategize for enhancing efficiency at each step of the Rocket Growth supply chain. QUALIFICATIONS Master’s in Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations research, Machine Learning, AI, or similar quantitative fields. 10+ years of in-depth experience in one or several areas of machine learning. Extensions familiarity with Python, Java, Pytorch, Tensorflow, Pyspark, Hive. Experience in implementing and integrating adaptable and reliable machine learning solutions. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations research, Machine Learning, AI, or equivalent quantitative fields 3+ years of leadership experience with large-scale e-Commerce supply chain technology systems. Demonstrated ability to set technology visions by working backwards from customer needs and deliver innovative solutions. Experience in collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, ruthless prioritization, aiming high, and finding unconventional methods to deliver results.
