Job Overview

The Search & Discovery department is a pivotal customer-facing facet of Coupang, effectively matching billions of products to customer needs. We're on a mission to develop next-gen infrastructure to support our hypergrowth for years to come. We're in search of an experienced and passionate engineering leader to drive this initiative across various facets like serving, pipelines, and machine learning.

We need a deep diver who can optimize and design the stack end-to-end while being a role model for delivering high-quality machine learning systems. The successful candidate will seamlessly blend business needs with technical solutions, working collaboratively with leadership and key stakeholders to chart aligned technological directions.

This role includes close collaboration with Search senior leadership (VP, Sr. Directors) and offers the autonomy to identify and solve key search issues, including innovations in deep learning and large language modeling.

Key Responsibilities

• Build comprehensive Search & Discovery systems and design next-gen AI products to fuel business growth
• Execute key developments and overcome technical challenges
• Maintain robust ML designs with operational excellence
• Adopt a metrics-driven approach to identify significant opportunities
• Foster strong collaborations with partner teams
• Recruit and nurture world-class talent

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience in technology companies
• Comprehensive understanding of key technology areas, including information retrieval, deep learning, large language modeling, data processing, and real-time serving
• Proven track record of delivering large, complex systems with significant business impacts
• Strong design and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across teams and functions

Preferred Skills

• Experience with search and recommendation systems
• Technical Lead or Managerial experience

Pay & Benefits

Our compensation is competitive and reflects the cost of living across various U.S. geographic markets. Your base pay at Coupang is just one part of your comprehensive compensation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $159,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $351,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
