Course Description

This course explores diverse approaches to music teaching and learning, including informal music learning, the use of music technology, community music, and creative musical activities in music classrooms. Students will engage in active music creation and performance while developing a robust curriculum inspired by the course’s philosophical foundations.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a graduate degree in music technology and have extensive knowledge and experience with music technology in educational settings. Experience in community music and/or community-engaged research is also required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching music at the university level is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Define course objectives and prepare teaching materials.
  • Provide clear guidelines on course requirements and assessment criteria.
  • Teach classes as scheduled and administer evaluations of student assignments.
  • Prepare and submit final grades in accordance with university policy.
  • Maintain reasonable hours for student consultation outside of class hours.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals at the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or III as per Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement and should not apply for positions under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
