Software Engineer Manager (Big Data) at Nielsen Marketing Cloud

Join Nielsen Marketing Cloud’s Big Data group, where we seek a highly skilled Team Lead with a passion for data and cutting-edge technologies. Our team processes 25TB of data daily using a highly distributed system running hundreds of cloud instances and storing data in modern NoSQL databases like Aerospike. Our system demands high performance, cost-efficiency, scalability, and strict adherence to SLAs. Responsibilities

Your primary focus will be on building and maintaining highly distributed, scalable, high-performing, and cost-effective systems. We leverage the latest cloud and data technologies and continually experiment with new advancements. If you’re passionate about data, eager to learn, and thrive on innovation, this role is for you.

Core Technical Skills

• A degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• 6+ years of hands-on experience in server-side development across various complex projects
• 5 years of experience as a software team lead
• Proficiency with Java and Java frameworks
• Experience working with distributed systems
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

• Ability to lead a team of software engineers effectively
• Track project-related activities, tasks, timelines, and team member roles
• Transform user stories or concepts into scalable systems
• Present ideas effectively and drive decisions
• Self-start and push projects towards completion
• Handle multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, and manage priorities
• From ideation to execution, manage the project's lifecycle
• Bring fresh, out-of-the-box thinking to projects

Preferred Skills (Advantageous to Have)

• Experience with AWS cloud services or similar
• Proficiency in additional languages such as Scala and Python
• Fluency in SQL
• Strong understanding of data modeling, database design, and data warehousing concepts
• Experience with data-driven technologies such as Airflow, Spark, Kafka, and Flink
• Hands-on with RDBMS and NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with continuous deployment tools like GitLab Pipelines, Terraform, and Ansible
