Software Engineering Manager - Optimization & AI/ML

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will drive initiatives pertaining to current and future best practices. You will collaborate with your team, other managers, and the rest of the organization to define our software development technologies, practices, procedures, and policies. In your role, you will ensure our modules and products meet or exceed the demands of the aviation world and are prepared to enable the future of aviation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set Software Factory direction, processes, and procedures for the area of ownership.
• Align engineering initiatives to focus on company strategic goals.
• Ensure teams understand engineering goals and company strategy.
• Identify and close engineering gaps.
• Lead, support, and coach Software Factory employees; hold the team accountable.
• Manage people: career development and performance management.
• Collaborate with other Engineering Managers to deliver on shared objectives.
• Ensure quality in deliverables and continuous improvement.
• Identify key performance indicators, measure, and improve them.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent.

Experience:

• 10 years of experience in software development.
• 3 years of leadership experience managing software developers.
• AWS Certifications are highly valued.
• Knowledge of SAFe 6.0 is a plus.

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong leadership and accountability.
• Passion for motivating and building teams.
• Ability to provide technical direction, influence, and build consensus.
• Knowledge of optimization techniques: Linear Programming, Column Generation, Shortest path & graph theory, custom heuristics.
• Proficiency in ML/AI: ML Ops, generative AI (LLM).
• Customer-centric mindset and strategic thinking.

Technical Systems Proficiency:

• AWS
• Linux/Windows
• iOS
