About Our Semantic Reasoning & Understanding Department

The Semantic Reasoning & Understanding Department is a prominent part of the AI Research Lab at Nokia Bell Labs. Our team leverages cutting-edge technologies like computer vision, computational photography, neural rendering, scene reconstruction, visual-inertial odometry, and sensor fusion to revolutionize industrial processes and human-machine interactions, particularly in the AR space. We specialize in visual, inertial, and radio-based localization and semantic reconstruction of industrial environments, contributing to the industry's transformation into Industry 4.0 enterprises.

Your Responsibilities as a Spatial Computing Research Intern

As part of our innovative team, you will:

  • Contribute to the development of proof-of-concept demonstrators in spatial computing, either client-side apps (smartphone, robots, cameras) or backend apps.
  • Work with lower-level/embedded code, hardware, and sensors.
  • Collaborate closely with top researchers, offering a chance for continuous learning.
  • Implement, test, and adapt cutting-edge AI and computer vision algorithms.
  • Develop frontend/backend/embedded code.
  • Integrate and adapt AI models into research prototypes.
  • Participate in generating invention reports and scientific papers.

Required Skills and Experience

We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Enrolled in an MSc or BSc program in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
  • Exceptional developer skills in frontend/backend technologies.
  • Experience with computer vision principles/algorithms and hands-on image/video processing.
  • Familiarity with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
  • Skills in manipulating, operating, and fixing ground robots/drones, with an affinity for hardware work.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, an analytical mindset, proactiveness, and a can-do attitude.
