WJLA-TV in Washington, DC, is on the lookout for an enterprising and aggressive Special Content Producer. This is a unique opportunity to join the award-winning WJLA ABC 7 & 24/7 Team, dedicated to producing cutting-edge, data-driven journalism for all our platforms, with a particular focus on digital storytelling. This role will work in close collaboration with our 7 On Your Side consumer/investigative unit. We are seeking an individual with a keen ability to visualize stories and dynamic storytelling skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and develop graphics and visual effects to illustrate news stories
• Participate in daily editorial meetings to pitch ideas for breakout segments using graphics and animations
• Help conceptualize, plan, and execute “7 On Your Side” and major coverage content elements
• Collaborate with reporters and producers to create visual “extras” for all platforms
• Work alongside photojournalists to blend video, photos, and graphic elements for storytelling
• Edit visual elements and incorporate sound under deadline pressure
• Maintain a sharp eye for detail in all visual content

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum 3 years experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially After Effects
• Illustration or animation skills required; willingness to learn new programs including Kinetic Typography and mapping software such as Google Earth Studio
• A journalism degree is preferred – strong news judgment and understanding of journalism ethics is crucial
• Capability to simplify complex information into understandable stories
• Proficiency with all available tools to enhance visual storytelling
• A keen eye for color schemes, font choices, and layout to showcase content effectively
