A role with Target Data Sciences offers the exciting opportunity to develop and manage state-of-the-art predictive algorithms using data at scale to automate and optimize decisions. Whether you are part of our Statistics, Optimization, or Machine Learning teams, you'll be tasked with leveraging Target’s extensive data to create algorithms that power solutions for our Marketing, Supply Chain Optimization, Network Security, and Personalization partners.

Your Role as a Senior Data Scientist

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will:

• Influence and interact within the Data Sciences team and Product teams.
• Implement solutions within the scale and scope of your role.
• Contribute to the Data Sciences’ and Target’s culture by modeling exemplary behavior.

Your day-to-day tasks will include:

• Performing data exploration and analysis (examining distributions, identifying anomalies, creating visualizations, etc.).
• Implementing algorithmic solutions given specifications and adhering to best practices in model development.
• Understanding foundational programming principles (unit tests, code organization, CI/CD basics), and creating a maintainable and well-documented codebase.
• Developing skills in one or more approved programming languages (Java, Scala, Python, R) and adhering to best practices in data analysis and understanding.
• Following agile processes to implement software or data science solutions.
• Evaluating multiple techniques for defined problems to determine the most optimal solution from a performance perspective.
• Collaborating with peers on product development, providing technical support, and participating in code reviews.

About You

We're looking for candidates with:

• A 4-year degree in Quantitative disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of professional experience or equivalent industry experience.
• Strong knowledge and experience in developing optimization, simulation, and statistical models.
• Excellent analytical thinking skills and the ability to creatively solve business problems.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Hadoop/Hive. Knowledge of Spark, Scala, R, Java is a plus.
• A strong understanding of mathematical and statistical concepts, MILP, algorithms, and computational complexity.
• A passion for solving real-world problems using data science approaches.
• Experience with advanced statistical techniques such as regression, clustering, PCA, and forecasting (time series).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to tell data-driven stories through visualizations and narratives.
• A self-driven, results-oriented attitude with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Strong team collaboration skills across geographies/time zones.
