Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Senior Engineering Manager to lead our API Shield product engineering team and the Application Security Platform team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical leadership skills and expertise in API security, with a preference for those with experience in research, data science, and fraud detection methodologies.

The API Shield team at Cloudflare is a diverse group of engineers and data scientists dedicated to protecting clients from emerging API security threats and fraudulent activities. The team leverages advanced machine learning, data science, and engineering to develop cutting-edge security solutions. Responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, data scientists, and security experts responsible for developing and maintaining Cloudflare’s API Shield product.
• Manage a cross-functional team within Cloudflare’s Application Security organization to expand on a platform supporting other products' needs.
• Collaborate with product management, security researchers, and analysts to enhance API Shield product capabilities.
• Design, implement, and optimize scalable, high-performance systems.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
• Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality solutions.
• Stay updated on the latest security, data science, and fraud detection technologies and integrate best practices into our strategy.
• Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders for technology integration opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (M.S. and Ph.D. degrees preferred).
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 years in a leadership role.
• Strong background in API security, data science, and fraud detection, with hands-on experience in security and fraud detection algorithms and systems.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, or Rust, and experience with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, , or scikit-learn.
• Experience with big data technologies like Kafka and familiarity with Clickhouse.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven track record of leading and motivating teams in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
• Experience with building and deploying production-grade machine learning models at scale.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements related to fraud detection and data privacy (e.g., GDPR).
• Experience in the fintech, e-commerce, or cybersecurity industries.
