23andMe is seeking a talented full stack software developer to become a vital part of our expanding Genomic Data Sciences team. Collaborate with our Bioinformatics, Research Project Management, and Genomics teams to create innovative applications that drive the discovery and exploration of disease targets through genetics.

What You'll Do

• Develop and deploy advanced applications that reveal genetic and phenotypic insights to our research partners.
• Identify and integrate open-source or commercial applications to enhance research capabilities.
• Ensure an exceptional research user experience leveraging the world’s largest recontactable genetic database.
• Collaborate with internal and external engineers to maintain scientific applications and visualizations.
• Contribute to application roadmaps, development lifecycles, and release plans.
• Work with data engineers, bioinformaticians, and biologists to make complex data more usable and comprehensible.
• Assist machine learning and data engineering teams in presenting intricate data for discoverability and exploration.
• Produce technical documentation and translate complex information for non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies.

What You’ll Bring

• 5+ years of proven experience as a full stack developer.
• Passionate about current and best practices in full stack architecture and user experience.
• Extensive experience in developing scientific or data-centric applications, particularly in genetics and genomics.
• Strong knowledge of modern front-end technologies, HTML, CSS, and best practices in layout, cross-browser compatibility, and accessibility.
• Experience integrating open-source applications and datasets with a focus on user experience.
• Familiarity with quality control, testing, and release management procedures.
• Exceptional skills in layout aesthetics and data visualization.
• Deep understanding of the entire web development process.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Availability to work from our South San Francisco or Sunnyvale office three days per week.

Strongly Preferred

• Experience in Agile software development lifecycle leadership.
• Proficiency in scripting languages like R or Python.
• Experience with SQL, NoSQL database systems, and GraphQL.
• Previous work in secure or air-gapped environments.
• Familiarity with distributed or high-performance computing systems.
