We are excited to announce an opening in our dynamic analytics engine team for a seasoned engineer. At Amazon, you will take a hands-on role in the design and development of core components within our innovative and technical analytics sector focused on open data analytics engines such as Athena and EMR.

About the Role

The Senior Software Development Engineer will delve deep into our core engines, making extensive modifications to enhance functionality in serverless environments. With the engines powered by Trino and Spark, our team has boosted their efficiency fivefold in three years through transformative changes in the optimizer, query runtime, and storage connectors. Additionally, modifications in the compiler have enabled sophisticated enterprise features like fine-grain access control.

Your expertise will be crucial in driving further enhancements across the query engine codebase. This role involves a mix of hands-on development, designing solution algorithms, interacting with the open-source community, and ensuring data consistency with remarkable performance and scalability. You will also mentor upcoming engineers, manage complex delivery projects, and be the point of contact for challenging customer issues around query engine problems.

Team Dynamics

Our team comprises engineers passionate about engine internals, each boasting several years of experience, including PhD levels. Led by highly technical managers with extensive developer backgrounds, we approach our backlog research strategically—ideas are prototyped, validated with real data, and then executed.

Committed to work-life balance, our team treats work as a marathon, ensuring our delivery promises are sustainable. Positions are available primarily in East Palo Alto, CA, but there are flexible location options within the USA.
