Your Opportunity

EBSCO has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Software Development Engineer focused on developing consumer-facing products. You will join an agile team specializing in search intelligence back-end tools and systems for our search engine. On a daily basis, you’ll design, develop, test, and deploy software into AWS using state-of-the-art technologies. As part of our agile team, you'll work on 2-week iterations, making and meeting commitments as a team. Continual learning and improvement in both knowledge and productivity are key components of this role.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with product management and your team to analyze and decompose complex software requirements into user stories for planning and execution.
  • Estimate the size and complexity of features, perform technical design, implementation, and testing, and commit to stories for each iteration.
  • Provide expertise in system architecture, design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operation of EBSCO products.
  • Mentor team members in your areas of expertise.
  • Continuously improve the quality of the team’s deliverables and author well-engineered solutions using test-first methodologies.
  • Conduct new technology research and proof of concept work, informing the enhancement of overall systems and products.
  • Adhere to best practices for design, coding standards, performance, security, delivery, and maintainability.
  • Own developed components from development through production.

Your Team

The Cortex team at EBSCO builds search intelligence tools for our search engine, enabling capabilities like full-text retrieval, data harvesting, and usage-informed suggestions. This team also develops Machine Learning solutions. Successful candidates proficient in core Java/Python tools will have opportunities to work on these advanced ML solutions.

About You

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of Java development experience.
  • 5+ years in large systems software design and development, including RESTful Web Services, HTML, XML/JSON, HTTP, SSL.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud services, preferably AWS and serverless technology patterns.
  • Working knowledge of microservices and related design patterns.
  • Experience in developing complex solutions (not just scripts) using Python.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills, including anticipating problems and assessing risk.
  • Excellent mentoring skills with a desire to contribute beyond day-to-day project work.

Our Offer to You

Target Annual Compensation Range: $117,250 - $167,500

The actual salary offer will consider various factors such as skills, qualifications, education, training, experience, and the position’s work location.
