About the Role: Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will be a vital force in integrating analytics and reporting output directly into our customer-facing applications. You will enhance our data platform infrastructure and develop data pipelines to meet both internal and external data requirements.

Embedded within the cross-functional Data Platform team, you will collaborate extensively across Engineering, Analytics, Machine Learning, and Product disciplines.

Our primary location is South San Francisco, with a strong culture of remote work established well before and continued after COVID-19. We pride ourselves on our expertise in collaborative remote working, irrespective of team member location.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute significantly to setting architectural direction for the Data Platform.
  • Optimize existing infrastructure, tooling, and data pipelines to support expansion to external users.
  • Utilize a diverse tech stack including Python, Postgres, Redshift, Prefect, Kubernetes, various AWS services, etc.
  • Implement a new Data Platform API layer.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Product, and other data platform users to understand and support their use cases.
  • Explore new technologies and bring your expertise to our team.
  • Mentor less senior team members.

Skills & Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5-7+ years of software engineering or data engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one major programming language (Python, Java, C#, Ruby, Kotlin).
  • Strong SQL experience.
  • Experience with cloud computing (AWS preferred).
  • Ability to handle both greenfield projects and ownership of existing projects.
  • Deep knowledge of software development fundamentals including object-oriented design and functional programming.
  • Highly self-sufficient and proactive in solving complex problems.
  • Passion for addressing healthcare’s unique challenges and opportunities.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Python.
  • Knowledge of data platforms, data pipelines, or comparable services.
  • Familiarity with Data Warehouses (Amazon Redshift preferred).
  • Understanding of scheduling/orchestration technologies (such as Prefect or Airflow).
  • Experience with BI tools (Tableau, Looker, Quicksight, SuperSet, etc.).

Compensation

Salaries for this position range from $175,000-$200,000 plus equity, based on market data and other relevant factors. Variations may apply depending on candidate qualifications, location, experience, and other job-related considerations. We are dedicated to achieving great work together.
