Role Overview
Reporting to the Director of Machine Learning Engineering, the Sr. Unified Data/Semantic Engineer will design and develop a unified semantic layer framework for our Data and ML Platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, programming, and machine learning algorithms. A passion for leveraging data to drive business decisions is essential.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and develop a scalable modular semantic layer framework, seamlessly integrating with various Data and AI/ML components across the organization.
- Ensure the semantic layer aligns with industry standards and best practices for knowledge representation such as RDF, OWL, and SPARQL.
- Develop frameworks and interfaces to enable the integration of the semantic layer into various AI/ML use cases.
- Establish governance processes to maintain the integrity, consistency, and accuracy of the semantic layer over time.
- Provide training and support to engineering and business teams for the effective utilization of the semantic layer.
- Continuously monitor and enhance the semantic layer to address evolving business requirements and technological advancements.
- Collaborate with enterprise architecture, data architecture, and AI/ML teams to ensure the semantic layer aligns with the organization's data and technology strategy.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
- 5+ years of experience with a BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience in framework development and building semantic layers for complex business use cases.
Technical Skills
- Strong coding skills in one or more programming languages - Python, Scala, or Java.
- Experience with petabyte-scale data sets and developing semantic layer solutions in Databricks, Snowflake, or similar large platforms.
- Experience with cloud-based data warehousing and transformation tools like Delta Lake Tables, DBT, Fivetran, or Snowflake.
- Proficiency in machine learning and familiarity with open-source machine learning ecosystems.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Physical Demands
- Sitting and typing/keyboarding, using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor) for extended periods.
- Possible walking, bending, reaching, standing, squatting, and stooping.
- Occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs.
