Job Description

The Financial Crimes Technology team at Cash App aims to detect and report illegal and suspicious activities on the platform. Collaborating globally with our Product, Counsel, and Engineering teams, we strive to offer a safe user experience while minimizing or eliminating bad activities.

We are leveraging cutting-edge technologies like Generative AI and Machine Learning to monitor hundreds of billions of dollars in transactions across both traditional payment and blockchain networks. Our machine learning systems identify and flag suspicious activities, such as money laundering and terms of service violations, for review. Additionally, we proactively block inappropriate payments in real-time. By utilizing AI, we're enhancing agent workflows and case review tools, boosting productivity, and enabling quicker, more informed decision-making.

As a Staff AI Engineer on this team, you will have a significant opportunity to innovate and optimize Financial Crimes Operations at Cash App. Although this role is an Individual Contributor (IC), it encompasses substantial leadership responsibilities, including owning and driving strategic roadmaps and collaborating with relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, integrate, and enhance batch inference services and tools supporting LLM Copilot and Autopilot use cases.
  • Facilitate infrastructure/tools development for the team's modelers, solving issues related to MLOps, data access, security, and scalability.
  • Develop prototypes and collaborate with modelers to encourage the adoption of new tools and technologies.
  • Lead by example in applying AI/ML and engineering best practices.
  • Partner closely with Financial Crimes, AI/ML Platform, and Product Engineering teams across Cash App and Block.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of combined experience in Machine Learning and Engineering, preferably with full-stack ML experience.
  • A Master’s or advanced degree in computer science, data science, operations research, applied math, statistics, physics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Linux/OS X command line, version control software (git), and software development principles, particularly within a machine learning lifecycle.
  • Experience collaborating with product, business, and engineering teams to prioritize, design, and deploy ML models.
  • Familiarity with the Python computing stack, MySQL, Snowflake, Airflow, Java/Go.
  • Experience with hosting models for inference on public clouds such as GCP or AWS, and building micro-services for event-based triggering, feature generation, and downstream actioning.
