Your Role: Staff Data Scientist

As a vital member of our Bureau of Technology, your mission will be to design, develop, and implement AI-driven solutions to enhance our marketplace. You will collaborate with our AI team—our Data Science & Machine Learning incubator—to explore new AI applications and transition the most promising ones into production. You will assist senior leadership in expanding AI integration within our product suite, influencing and impacting the entire organization by promoting best practices in data science.

Our current focus is on leveraging generative AI at scale to improve customer care (e.g., sentiment analysis, agent-assisting tools) and optimize our catalog management.

What You Will Do

• Oversee high-impact projects, covering problem definition, metrics development, data extraction and manipulation, model implementation, and stakeholder presentations.
• Identify company-wide problems and opportunities for AI solutions; develop prototypes or MVPs to validate these solutions; collaborate with teams to build and scale product features.
• Hands-on development, productionization, and operation of machine learning models and pipelines at scale, including batch and real-time use cases, structured and unstructured data.
• Contribute to the strategy, roadmap, and vision for AI usage in the company.
• Provide mentorship and guidance, helping develop the skills of data scientists and promoting best practices in AI.
• Regularly present your work to technical, engineering, and product stakeholders to acculturate the company to AI topics.

Your Background

• At least 8 years of industry experience in data science or related fields, with a Master’s or PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Economics, Sciences, Engineering).
• Proven track record of leading large-scale initiatives to develop data science products that solve business problems.
• Deep understanding of the Machine Learning lifecycle, including best practices, algorithms, and domains (e.g., time series, NLP, computer vision, recommendation).
• Strong coding skills in Python, with familiarity in software engineering principles like testing, code reviews, and deployment.
• Experience in designing, prototyping, scaling, and launching data science products.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop scientists, engineers, and peers.
• Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
• A curious and proactive mindset, with a strong sense of team spirit.
